Ritchie Blackmore: baroque riff-meister

The original lead guitarist with the band Deep Purple, Ritchie Blackmore created an extraordinarily sophisticated fusion of Blues and Rock using concepts of Baroque articulation and phrasing and delivered in the context of a high energy hard rock band.

On the album "Machine Head" Blackmore by the first 3 notes of a minor scale to the flattened 5th, and harmonising it in parallel 4ths, he created what is arguably the most famous guitar riff ever heard.
