You got Rhythm

This is a play on the title of the famous song from the 1930's "I got Rhythm" by George Gershwin, with lyrics by his brother Ira.

That song was so popular, and so well constructed it became the basis for many other songs. The chord progression is known to jazz musicians as " Rhythm changes" and became the basis for many jazz instrumentals.

Gershwin was a Tin Pan Alley songwriter who later composed one of the most popular piano concertos of the 20th century, the jazzy Rhapsody in Blue.

Story telling

I talk about story telling in all my art classes. Here is a piece of pop music story telling expertly and wittily explained by Mark Steyn: Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Webb and the utility worker.

Excerpt: " I had been driving around northern Oklahoma, an area that's real flat and remote – almost surreal in its boundless horizons and infinite distances."

"I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload..."
