Faure

Gabriel Urbain Fauré was a French Romantic composer, organist, pianist and teacher. He was one of the foremost French composers of his generation, and his musical style influenced many 20th-century composers.

Here are a few of his most popular works:

  • Pavane, Op. 50 - The pavane was a slow processional dance common in the Renaissance (16c). Faure recasts it in all the glorious colours of the modern orchestra.
  • Fantasie, Op.79 for Flute. - Listen to the articulation of the flute as it floats above the lush harmonies like flowers in a Monet meadow.
  • Requiem in D minor, Op. 48. - Faure's most loved choral work.
