Recuerdos de la Alhambra at the Art Gallery of N.S.W.

At the beginning of the 20th century, or rather, the end of the 19th century, Francisco Tarrega wrote one of the most famous guitar pieces of all time. This melancholy waltz has a humming melody which uses the guitar to great effect. This version is from a live performance at the Art Gallery of N.S.W.

Rumores de la Caleta by Isaac Albeniz

This is an excerpt from a performance at the Art Gallery of N.S.W. I also recorded a full version (available to hear on this site).

Another impressionistic piece by the pianist Isaac Albeniz, this one depicts a stomping flamenco dance in 3/4, complete with the characteristic flamenco vocalisations in the middle section.

Granada by Isaac Albeniz

A languid sound-painting of the famous Spanish City by composer Isaac Albeniz. Transcribed for the guitar by Peter Inglis.

Leyenda (Asturias) by Isaac Albeniz

An exciting piece which uses typical Flamenco guitar flourishes to depict scenes from the Moorish invasions of Spain in the Middle Ages, including a horse chase and sword fighting.
