Repertoire Painting
❝"The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity. The creative mind plays with the objects it loves." - Carl Jung.
❞ I developed "repertoire painting" based on the way we traditionally learn music and language.
- Repertoire is a story told in a specific medium. It may be in the domain of art, music, literature, dance or martial arts.
- Repertoire shows how the language is used to communicate.
- Repertoire contains all the necessary skill sets.
When you learn classical music you learn the language by playing and analysing the masterworks.
A music student would answer the question "How good are you?" something like this. I play:
- Classical pieces by ... Bach, Mozart and Vivaldi
- Rock by ... Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones
- Pop by ... The Beatles, Kylie Minogue and Elton John.
This is also the way you probably learned English in school, by studying classic literature.
By taking a repertoire based approach to painting you are:
- Working towards a well defined goal.
- Creating a masterwork which is already proven to be a popular piece of art.
- Working to a time constraint
In summary we are working and aiming to produce a reasonable interpretation of a recognised masterpiece painting within a limited time frame.
